Event Description:

The recently established ASEAN IPR SME Helpdesk provides free, practical first-line intellectual property advice and services to European SMEs working in or with the ASEAN region. The project aims to enable European SMEs to make the best IPR decisions for their business, and ensure that the creativity and innovation that SMEs bring to the marketplace remain a cornerstone of European competitiveness.

During the launch event, Helpdesk members will introduce the services provided to SMEs and discuss potential areas of collaboration with intermediary organisations. The guest expert speaker, Kin Wah Chow, will provide an overview of the IPR landscape in Southeast Asia while providing some pertinent examples to illustrate the importance of IP protection for SMEs doing business in ASEAN.

Expert Speaker biography:

Kin-Wah Chow is an executive at Rouse & Co. International LLP based in Jakarta. Previously, he worked in Singapore, China and Hong Kong advising on IP related issues/transactions. He began his IP career in Singapore where he acted for high profile companies such as an European airliner in a patent infringement case, business software houses against pirates and end-user misuse, technology companies in royalty dispute/collection and apparel companies in trade mark disputes. He speaks English, Chinese and Indonesian, and in 2012 received the ILO Client Choice Individual Award.
